Managed detection and response

Decide which signals need action and who acts next.

Yojo can help define detection priorities, agreed telemetry, triage criteria, and escalation responsibilities under a documented operating model. Service hours and response commitments are included only when agreed in writing.

Review detection and escalation coverage

This work becomes relevant when the route is unclear.

  1. Alert queues lack business priority

Teams receive signals without enough asset, identity, or business information to decide what deserves investigation first.

  2. Coverage blind spots are not visible

Log collection has grown without a maintained view of which critical systems, behaviours, and failure points remain unseen.

  3. Escalation stalls between teams

Security and IT contacts do not share decision thresholds, required case information, or authority for the next action.

Questions the engagement must resolve.

  1. Which systems, identities, and behaviours require detection coverage first?

  2. Which useful signals are available and where are the known blind spots?

  3. What information is required before an alert becomes an investigation or escalation?

  4. Who receives each escalation and what authority do they hold?

How the workstreams connect.

The engagement boundary determines how far each stream goes. The sequence is adjusted to the agreed question, access, and operating constraints.

  1. Detection priorities

Relate critical services, credible attack paths, and available telemetry to a defined set of detection cases.

  2. Coverage and blind-spot review

Record which agreed systems and behaviours are observable, partially observable, or not currently visible.

  3. Triage and investigation design

Define case information, decision thresholds, responsible contacts, and the steps permitted at each stage.

  4. Escalation and service review

Agree notification paths, client actions, case records, and the format for reviewing recurring issues and coverage changes.

System viewOperational signals narrow toward an owned response. The workstreams are Detection priorities, Coverage and blind-spot review, Triage and investigation design, Escalation and service review.

Expected outputs, qualified before delivery.

These are proposed artefacts. Their format, audience, evidence threshold, and ownership are agreed within the engagement boundary.

Coverage matrix
A proposed record of priority systems, detection cases, telemetry sources, dependencies, and known blind spots.
Triage criteria
Decision points, required case information, and severity handling to agree before operational use.
Escalation matrix
Contacts, notification paths, client duties, and permitted actions to approve in the operating agreement.
Service review format
A proposed record of cases, blind spots, recurring control issues, and agreed improvement actions.

A useful boundary is explicit on both sides.

What the client provides

  • Name technical and business contacts who can receive, assess, and act on escalations.
  • Provide authorised access to the telemetry sources included in the operating agreement.
  • Maintain client-owned log sources, agents, identities, integrations, and accurate asset information.
  • Carry out client actions and containment decisions unless a separate written authority states otherwise.

What the service does not claim

  • Service hours, response-time commitments, and service-level targets apply only when agreed in writing.
  • Telemetry coverage is limited to the sources, systems, retention, and access agreed with the client.
  • Containment authority and active incident response are excluded unless separately authorised in writing.
  • Detection cannot guarantee prevention or identify activity that leaves no usable signal in the agreed sources.

A concise operating sequence.

Each point is a decision gate. Work moves forward when the required people, evidence, and authority are in place.

  1. Coverage agreement

Document priority systems, telemetry, blind spots, contacts, hours, and responsibilities.

  2. Case handling

Apply the agreed triage, investigation, recording, and escalation rules.

  3. Service review

Review case themes, coverage changes, client actions, and proposed improvements.
